Coffee, Coffee, Coffee!

Ted Jerman paid us a visit from America. It was lovely to meet him and his two sons. Ted was evacuated to Dumbleton during the war and was placed with the Griffin family. When he spoke to us of his time here he said his life started in Dumbleton which was quite charming. Part of his story can be read on the site but meeting him in person brought it all to life and there was laughter at the coffee morning as everyone chatted and some recalled.

It must have been heavenly to escape London and grow up in Dumbleton but perhaps I am being a romantic! Ted chatted to the coffee group young and old and we all enjoyed meeting him and his sons and hope the rest of his UK visit was as good. I am hoping he will write a few words for the site when he is home and settled. He was going to London via The Mount at Stanton 'for a proper ploughman's lunch' so I am curious to hear his story!

The Calendar Girls of Dumbleton !

So the rumours are true! Following the idea of Lucy Harvey and Sarah Powell the tea ladies of Dumbleton Cricket Club quietly got together for a photo shoot for a calendar for 2011.  I am tactfully told the ages of the ladies range from 25 years to approximately late 70's and the shots are, of course, in the best possible taste and buns, batpads and umpire jackets have been artistically used to protect the innocent!

What fun!

Once approved by the ladies the shots will go to print, each month has been sponsored by a local business and they will go on sale early November through the club and local events. The price will be £10.  £1 of the proceeds of each calendar will go to Help for Heroes and £1 to Winston's Wish and the remainder to the Cricket Club.

Can't wait! I can only imagine what fun they had doing this. Well done girls!

Update!

They are now out and selling fast so you can get yours by calling Lucy on 01386 881 041. They cost £10 as stated but I am told that they have changed hands for as much as £50 ..........

  Go girls!

I was also told by my mole that next year it might be the boys!

Watch this space!
